ZODIAC SIGN: Facts and what Your Zodiac Sign Says About You

It’s human nature to want to predict others, and thats what astrology is all about. 

Whether astrology was truly a factor, we’ll never know.  One note about humans though, is that our birthday is on the cusp of two zodiac signs. That means that we have characteristics of both signs at times.

Speaking of cusps, there are other factors that can drill deeper into your personality. These usually come up if someone doesn’t identify with their Sun sign. Moon and Rising signs can be calculated by using your date of birth and location of birth via a natal chart. They tell you what other signs may influence you, based on where the moon, stars, and planets aligned when you were born. While these aspects are important to understanding a person’s makeup, this article is specifically focusing on Sun signs.

As you can tell, astrology is not a straight-forward or perfect science. It‘s not meant to be. It all boils down to how you and others perceive yourself. The following write-ups are my experience with the zodiac signs.

Water/Earth/Fire/Air Signs

I will be referencing two groups that Sun signs can be grouped under that can provide additional insight in your sign. One is the natural elements, and the other is the driving elements.

The natural elements—is exactly how it sounds—your sign naturally is at its core. Most of this you probably are familiar with these already, so let's have a review.

• Water Signs: Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio. These signs tend to be emotional, sensitive, and intuitive.
• Earth Signs: Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus. These signs tend to be, what else; down-to-earth, level-headed, and practical.
• Fire Signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. These signs tend to be energetic, creative, and outgoing.
• Air Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. These signs tend to be idealistic, chatty, and philosophical.

Fixed/Cardinal/Mutable Signs

This is another group that your Sun signs can be qualified under—the driving elements. This can help answer the question: What drives you?

• Fixed Signs: Leo, Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius. These are the stubborn signs. In a group, they tend to make a decision and stick with it. They are also people you can rely on to be a "rock" and keep their head together when things go south. They are pretty perseverant.
• Cardinal Signs: Aries, Capricorn, Cancer, Libra. These are the leader signs. In a group, these are ones that will almost always volunteer to be the leader, or could possibly butt heads with the actual leader. They love exploring new territory.
• Mutable Signs: Sagittarius, Virgo, Pisces, Gemini. These are the communicator signs. The mutable signs are the ones that will talk to everyone in the group. They might be distracting, but they bring fresh ideas. 

Aries the Ram (March 21–April 19)

We’re going to start with Aries, as they love taking the lead. Aries are Fire, Cardinal signs—they’re competitive, energetic, outgoing, and natural born leaders. They are always on the move, usually have a lot of friends, and seem to have ants-in-their-pants. They are notoriously impatient and live life to the fullest. Aries can also be a bit selfish, when they have an idea and want to act on it. They can also have a temper.

You'll recognize them as they never stop moving.

Of course, Aries best gets along with their fellow Fire signs: Leo and Sagittarius. They can also get along well with their fellow Cardinal signs: Capricorn, Cancer, and Libra.

Taurus the Bull (April 20–May 20)

My brother is  a Taurus. He's gentle, yet quietly forceful. He can take the most complicated subject and break it down in common terms. He's to-the-point and rational. He's got "sweet eyes," like George Clooney. Just. Don't. Tick. Him. Off. The bull will come out and tear up the town. Bulls are wonderfully well-meaning but don't ever trick or betray them. Loyalty is everything to them. If they trust you, they will be your rock until the day you die.

I've also noticed that he and my cousin (who is also a Taurus) love good food. Like, really, really love good food...to the point of making themselves sick at times. I have no idea why. They also both love vegetables. Coincidence?

You'll recognize them as they are usually the reserved, yet naturally very sassy people that are willing to talk, but don't care if they do. They are usually dressed for comfort, maybe wearing their favorite cozy sweater.

Gemini the Twins (May 21–June 20)

 My other sister is a Gemini. She has to be visually stimulated constantly, and they're natural multi-taskers. There have been times when I'm visiting where she will be playing a game or watching tv while planning a task, and answering multiple people in the room. It's crazy, but Geminis can handle it. Their life is no different--they are always getting involved in new things, whether it's taking up a hobby, meeting new people, or joining a club—they do it all. If Aries is the sign of physically not sitting still, they are the mental sign of not sitting still.

Geminis also can get distracted and lose interest very quickly. Their brain is always going a mile a minute. They wouldn't have it any other way.

You'll recognize them as: they are the ones talking to everyone in the room while texting on their phone, making friend requests on Facebook, and still holding court, ever as charming.

Of course, Gemini best gets along with their fellow Air signs: Libra and Aquarius. They can also get along well with their fellow Mutable signs: Pisces, Virgo, and Sagittarius.

Cancer the Crab (June 21–July 22)

One of my good friends is a Cancer, and she is wise beyond her years. She is very naturally maternal and loves to cook. That does seem to be a strong characteristic of Cancer--that they prefer to nest at home instead of a wild time out. I've known plenty of Cancers, and they tend to be a bit feisty. I think the "feistiness" is just to protect just how sensitive they truly are. They are pretty empathic and moody, too.

You'll recognize them as: they are either the ones taking care of people or the ones standing in the corner by themselves not talking to anyone. For some reason, I've seen a lot of Cancers wear a lot of bright pink and bright orange. I don't know.

Leo the Lion (July 23–August 22)

Ah, Leo the Lion. My Parent are Leo. The dramatic, emotional, obstinate, expressive Lion. Lovable yet annoying. they don’t like their feelings hurt. That’s the worst thing in the world to them. Just let them be the center of attention.

Some of them are quite loud, can have hot tempers, and most of them are pretty outgoing. They're just warm creatures who love people and animals.

You’ll recognize them as: they need to make you laugh or be seen. You'll probably hear them first.

Of course, Leo best gets along with their fellow Fire signs: Aries and Sagittarius. They can also get along well with their fellow Fixed signs: Taurus, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

Virgo the Virgin (August 23–September 22)

Virgos are analytical; plain and simple. Gemini likes to talk is exactly how much Virgo likes to reason. God love them; don't expect them to make a decision very fast. They are classical overthinkers, who feel most natural taking a step back and looking at the big picture. Or the minute details—it could go either way. They have a very logical approach to everything and are also great communicators. Expect them to usually be a reliable friend who will be there to listen, anytime. They give great advice. They are definitely on the shy side.

You'll recognize them as: they are dressed in usually earth tone colors, talking with either a small group of people or one person for most of the night. They are quiet speakers, but can speak fast.

Libra the Scales (September 23–October 22)

Like its' mascot, Libra tends to be fairly balanced. They are pretty laid-back, and nothing really riles them. Libra gets along with literally everyone, and if there are any conflicts, they are the peacemakers. Everyone has a Libra friend.

They also tend to be very artsy, as the Famous Libra list below will confirm.

As perfect as Libras come across, they are a bit flaky. Don't plan on them being on time on a consistent basis. But don't worry--they'll balance out. (See what I did there.)

You'll recognize them as: they are the best-dressed ones in the room, making conversation with everyone from the guests to the servers. They'll arrive fashionably late and leave the party equally as early.

Scorpio the Scorpion (October 23–November 21)

A Scorpio man or woman is one of the most private people you will ever meet. They may come across as really outgoing and can be true party animals, but if you try to get close, be prepared to proceed slowly. Scorpios are just intense people who are protective of their feelings. Like other Water signs, they tend to feel deeply than other Sun signs. Scorpios can come across as super sharp-tongued, and they are, but deep down, they are very good people. Just watch where you step.

You'll recognize them as: they are wearing some sort of outfit with assorted patterns, dark lace, purple, or bright pink. Again; I have no idea why.

Sagittarius the Centaur (November 22–December 21)

My best friend is a Sagittarius, and she's a ton of fun, she loves entertaining, like Aries, this is another sign that lives life to the fullest.

Also, like Aries, they can be a little selfish trying to convince people to do what they want to do. If you're not convinced, they sulk. Sags can also incessantly talk. Bless their hearts—they're just such social creatures.

You’ll recognize them as: they'll be in the middle of the group, egging people on to drink, sing, or dance. They are consummate charmers and are quite witty.

Aquarius the Water Bearer (January 20–February 18)

"The age of Aquarius!...AQUARIUS!".

Aquarius are a little off Clever and Unpredictable. A bit stubborn. Can have a bad temper quickly. Love to talk philosophy. Strangely enough, they seem to be a mix of the other Sun signs. They are plain unconventional, and you never know what angle they are coming from. That makes them exciting. My best advice: buckle up, and hold on tight. Bring snacks and clean underwear.

Aquarius people seem to know everybody. They are the unofficial mayor of their town. Speaking of your town, these are the people on your block that have a million fork collection. They're quirky, but they're idealistic, and often involved in humanitarian issues. They are a great friend to have.

You'll recognize them as: they are the friend that you will never know if they will show up or not, but when they do, you'll have meaningful conversations.

Pisces the Fish (February 19–March 20)

Pisces  are wonderful people; very sensitive, open-minded, and understanding. They can also be wishy-washy, and can change their minds quickly. Don't even get me started on picking a restaurant to eat. Good lord.

They are emotional, but this can teeter on being hot or cold. It completely depends on their mood and what's going on around them. Yes; Pisces can literally take on the stresses around them. You just may not know they are mad or stressed until they snap. Then, as quickly as they got mad, they move onto the next thing. Fish are constantly in motion, and mentally in motion are Pisces.

You'll recognize them as: they are usually wearing something that doesn't match. At. All. Mismatched patterns. Crocs with a dress. They throw clothes on without caring what other people think. It makes sense to them, so why should they care? They are also a sign that has deep conversations and then might never speak to you again. Like fish, just when you think you have them figured out, they slip away.
